Now it's official: the new Peugeot 208 II will be produced in Argentina

Although it was an open secret, the PSA Group officially confirmed today that the first of the new models that will be produced at the El Palomar Buenos Aires plant will be the brand new Peugeot 208 II. This is the second generation of the hatchback for Segment B (boy), which in its first generation arrived imported from Brazil and Europe.

The confirmation was paid by Gabriel Cordo Miranda, president of the PSA Argentina Group, in the statement reproduced below.

The 208 II will premiere in El Palomar the new CMP Platform of the PSA Group. It is a structural base that already uses the new French DS 3 Crossback (read criticism) and that can be used to produce other models in Argentina. The product that has the greatest chances is the second generation of the Peugeot 2008 (see photos).

The CMP (Common Modular Platform) demanded an investment of 320 million dollars in El Palomar. The plant's modernization works were inaugurated by President Mauricio Macri in March 2017: “In 2019, cars leaving El Palomar will be the same as those in France,” said the president.

Due to the economic crisis, the launch date was postponed. Everything indicates that the new Argentine 208 II will be presented in mid-2020.

The photo illustrating this note was released this morning by Peugeot Argentina. Apparently, everything indicates that the national 208 will be identical to the model already marketed in Europe. From El Palomar, it will be exported to other regional markets. The most important buyer will be Brazil.
