WHAT IS IT ?: It is the new generation of the Chevrolet hatchback and sedan for Segment B (boy). They replace the old Onix and Prisma, which were cheaper and renamed Joy, to remain as entry-level models (see equipment and prices). The new Onix (five-door hatchback) and Onix Plus (four-door sedan) premiere the GEM Platform, developed in partnership between GM and the Chinese Saic, to create a new range of models that will also soon be produced at Mercosur. They arrive imported from Brazil and are already on sale in our market.

MECHANICAL: They release a new family of engines, all gasoline, with three cylinders and four valves per cylinder: 1.2 atmospheric (90 hp and 115 Nm) and 1.0 turbo (116 hp and 160 Nm). Five-speed manual gearbox (with 1.2 and 1.0T engines) or six-speed automatic (1.0T only). Front-wheel drive.

THE MOST: The safety equipment. They come standard with six airbags and stability control (ESP). The Onix and Onix Plus achieved the highest rating in the LatinNCAP crash tests: five stars in adult and child protection (see crash tests).

AT LEAST: The launch in Brazil was overshadowed by an early recall. All the units produced received an update of the engine software, following the fire of an Onix Plus (see official explanation). The units for the Argentine market already arrive with that software update.

THE DETAIL: The two bodies are offered with five levels of equipment each. The characteristics of the equipment of each version, the data of the mechanics and even the functions of the OnStar system are in the technical file to download (there are four sheets of spreadsheets with data).

PRICES: The values reported so far are for the following versions: Onix Plus Sedan 1.2 Manual, 838,900 pesos; Onix Plus Sedan 1.2 Manual LT, 933,800 pesos; Onix Plus Sedan 1.2 Manual LT Tech, 963,800 pesos; Onix Plus Sedan 1.2 Manual LT Tech OnStar, 973,800 pesos.
