AMLO will propose to reduce official times on radio and television

As part of the 60 Antena awards ceremony and National Radio and Television Week, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that he will present a proposal to reduce official radio and television times.

“I make the commitment before you to analyze this proposal to reduce the contribution, the tax, the so-called official times and I will give you an answer soon on this matter, in addition, it does not even require a legal reform, it is a decree, I have I have that power, so that you will soon know about a proposal that will go in the direction of reducing the official times for you to have that stimulus, that support for the important services provided to Mexican society. ”

During his speech, the chief executive stressed that a government emanating from the polls does not need propaganda or official times.

“A democratic government does not need propaganda, it does not need many official times, for how much. The main change of recent times is the change of mentality of our people, it is a different society, in an authoritarian, undemocratic regime because propaganda is needed to strengthen the government, ”said the president.

He explained that he has his way of communicating with citizens and transmitting his message.

“So much propaganda is not needed so much hoarding by the government of communication spaces. I have a way to communicate with the citizens, every day almost two hours in the morning. I don't need to have too much official time, there I have my opportunity to be communicating with the citizens.

He reiterated that he is sincere in that the media will always have the most complete and absolute freedom to demonstrate, as well as to exercise the right of the press.

“In our government there is a commitment to guarantee the exercise of freedom of expression and manifestation of ideas, it may seem like a common place, a rhetorical phrase, but we have ideals, we have principles and we are guided by our convictions, so that It is sincere that you will always have the most complete and absolute freedom to demonstrate to exercise the right to demonstrate and press, ”he said.

The president responded in this way to the request made by the National Chamber of the Radio and Television Industry (CIRT) of a series of points to improve the environment in the sector, which mainly involves having legal certainty and the elimination of official times.

"We demand the elimination of official times, which were born from an authoritarianism of the State, also absolutely outside the law derived from the coverage that was given to the movements of 1968 (student protests and the massacre of Tlatelolco)," said the President of the CIRT, José Luis Rodríguez, during the inauguration of Radio and Television Week.

Likewise, the manager asked the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador for legal certainty, since it is the basis for building a healthy, financially viable and job-generating business.

José Luis Rodríguez commented that radio and television are on a completely uneven floor in front of their competitors, due to the over regulation and taxation they face.
