Women live best in this country

See why Norway tops the Women, Peace and Security Index

Although no country gets a perfect result, global trends in women's emancipation are heading in the right direction, according to the latest Women, Peace and Security Index, released on Tuesday.

Women 's well-being is improving in 59 countries compared to the first index of 2017. Norway is ranked first with excellent financial inclusion for women. Switzerland ranks second, followed by Finland, Denmark and Iceland.

Yemen is the only country found to have a "significant deterioration" and ranked last in the ranking. The last positions include Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan and South Sudan.

Researchers in areas of armed conflict also see a deterioration in women's quality of life.

The index collected data from 167 countries, evaluating several variables, including employment, security, political representation and access to bank accounts.

Bulgaria is ranked 39th, ahead of Belarus, Northern Macedonia, Malta, and Slovakia.

Iceland, Angola, Slovenia, Germany and Honduras have the largest drop in women's parliamentary representation.

While there is much more to improve in women's rights around the world, the index shows that the outlook is not completely bleak.

This year, more women are gaining access to financial accounts, and several countries are abolishing discriminatory laws and increasing women's representation in politics.
