The renovated houses shown below are real people. Those you might have, for example, the type of hat you meet every morning in the subway. Those that you look at summer nights when the windows are wide open and in which it costs you nothing to imagine with the pajamas of pictures preparing you breakfast.

We want to live in them. Not so much because they leave us speechless (but also), but because every square centimeter is more optimized than the poses of an influencer's selfies. In them, blind and unusable corners are saved with self-confidence while all those original elements, however insignificant, acquire a new meaning. We collect below the works of interior designers and designers designed specifically for their owners, and they themselves tell us.
The Clock Tower - Tailored for each family member

The project

Baptized as The Clock Tower, it is the rehabilitation, integral reform and decoration of a 284m2 house in a 1950s stately building in the Barrio de Justicia, Madrid.

The team

RÄL 167: Ramsés Jiménez and Laura Pol Barthel.

The client

Young couple with two small children.

The needs

The owners wanted a large, comfortable and bright house in which to integrate the day-to-day activities of all family members. "One of the parents works many days from home, so he needs an office in which to isolate himself acoustically, but at the same time to be able to participate visually from the rest of the life that takes place in the house."

Another of the requests from the owners was that each bedroom had an associated bathroom and there was a courtesy toilet for the public area. On the other hand, young children required spaces to play and rest, so two rooms were enabled as bedrooms and another as a games room.

The challenges

The irregular areas of the plant and the location of the downspouts were the two major headaches for the architects.

The solutions

To recover part of the original structure they had to do a lot of "Ctrl Z". "The previous owners had turned the floor into a student house with 10 bedrooms, so the distribution had to be completely redone, putting ornamental elements back into value, such as moldings or stained glass."

The decisions

The obsession of the interior designers team was that the owners really felt that the house was tailor-made. "When someone hires us, the first thing we do is spend an afternoon with them, if possible at home, to discover how they really live and what their expectations and needs are. The same space has infinite ways to resolve, but you have to find the right one for each one. "

It was also decisive that both owners get personally involved in the project. "One did it in the part of rehabilitation and reform, contributing even constructive solutions or ideas about the size of the lamas of the floor or the technical lighting. The other took the reins in terms of decisions and search for special pieces. Luckily, we had good chemistry and that looks at the end. "

The result

The RÄL 167 study was present in the entire project, from helping the client in the search for the house to the decoration; in the preliminary project, the execution project and in the construction management.

As for the decoration, each piece of the house has its history. We find from paintings brought from travel or family heritage, sculptures given by friends, Alquian corals, Batavia lamps, Vitra office chairs, Tailak carpet, Mestizo chairs, Domestico Shop flexos, El Rastro sconces, accessories Zara Home, mirrors of Villanueva 23 and objects designed by RÄL 167 in collaboration with the owners. "We went together to the leather warehouses to choose the best piece for the chaise longue and the desk table envelope; to the marble quarries for the bathrooms and the kitchen; we visited several fabric stores for curtains and upholstery the chairs and headboards ... "
