From Porto Alegre (Brazil) - General Motors presented last week in Brazil the new Chevrolet Onix 2020 and Onix Plus 2020. This is the new generation of GM hatchback and sedan for Segment B (boy), which from At the end of the year they will arrive in Argentina to occupy the place in the market of the current Onix and Prisma.

The activity in the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul began with the presentation to the Argentine media of the specifications of the new Onix and all the variants it will offer.

The beginning of the commercialization is set for the beginning of December and will be three versions of equipment that the Onix and Onix Plus will share: Base (it will simply be named after the model), LT and Premier.

To highlight: all will include six airbags and stability control (ESP) as standard. Also in all versions: tire pressure gauge and slope start assistance.

The engines will arrive in two stages: first it will be the 1.2-liter atmospheric of 90HP (115Nm) of power and a few weeks later the 1.0 Turbo of 116HP and 160Nm, both in three-cylinder format. There will be two options in transmission: five-speed manual or six-automatic, the latter only available in the Premier versions.

Prices? At the moment, they are not known and "will be announced closer to the date of commercialization."

The time for the test drive arrived. All the cars available for the test drive were Onix Plus Premier. We split into groups of three journalists and first traveled to the back of unit number 15. I settled down and the first thing that surprised me is the ease I had to get in and sit comfortably. The driver had the seat quite back and still my knees barely touched the back. Of course: the head is not so far from the ceiling and my 1.85 make my hair (yes, I still have), feel very close upholstery.

Great detail for this segment: there are two USB connectors for rear occupants. Something logical in this 2019 that we are living, but that many brands do not offer. The kilometers passed and it was time to get behind the wheel.

They were barely 50 kilometers to the end point of the route. I had to drive almost everything on the highway, I take the opportunity to try some things of the 1.0 Turbo engine. The first thing that surprised me - although negatively - was the response to an accelerated one. He didn't pretend to kick or back against the back, but he did have some more verve. Already in speed, the feeling is different: in the upper area of the tachometer is where the most usable torque is. It invited to continue accelerating, but we were on a highway and the idea is always to respect the traffic rules.

Consumption, in a measurement on the fly and relying on the on-board computer, is just below 7 liters per 100 kilometers, traveling at 110 km / h. We will leave the maximum speed for when we can measure it correctly in Argentina.

The driving position is comfortable and in that helps the steering wheel adjustable in height and depth, with a large amplitude in both directions. Cruise control is along with the speed limiter commands and can cause us to get confused at the first attempt. Especially those who closely need glasses.

The suspension is comfortable, it does not transmit any vice and, over the almost 200 kilometers we completed with my coequipers, it had no strange bump or reaction. The rear suspension is now “four times stronger than the previous model,” according to Chevrolet, but it will be the subject of analysis later, when Autoblog can test it longer and in our beloved city streets.

The commands are easy to use. Dedicatedly, the item of equipment to which we had the most juice was the Wifi on board. Being in another country and without a local chip or data plan, wireless internet is the connectivity solution and we did so during the trip. Not only uploading content to networks, but also musicalizing the trip with their own playlists. We also used the Android Auto system throughout the tour, which was fluid.

The first conclusion in this contact is that the Onix Plus is a product that overcomes the Prism. Better habitability, better equipment and a more modern design. The turbocharged engine I would like to try with manual gearbox, to finish getting the doubt out of me if it is quiet in itself or has something to do with the configuration of the automatic gearbox. Anyway, I love the idea of having small engines with turbo, which offer respectable performance and content consumption.
