PlayStation 4 (プ レ イ ス テ ー シ ョ ン 4 Pureisutēshon Fō?, Officially abbreviated as PS4) is the fourth game console of the PlayStation model.8 It is part of the eighth generation video game consoles. It was officially announced on February 20, 2013 at the PlayStation Meeting 2013,9 event although the console design was not presented until June 10 at E3 2013.10 It is the successor to the PlayStation 3 and competes with Wii U and Switch of Nintendo and Xbox One from Microsoft. It was launched on November 15, 2013 in the United States and in Europe and South America on November 29, 2013.11 9 while in Japan it was on February 22, 2014.2

Moving away from the complex architecture used in the Cell processor of the PlayStation 3 game console, the PlayStation 4 has an 8-core AMD processor under the x86-64 architecture. These x86-64 instructions are related to make video game development easier on the new generation console, which attracts a greater number of developers. These changes will highlight Sony's effort to improve lessons learned during the development, production and launch of the PS3. Other notable hardware features of the PS4 are that they include 8 GB of GDDR5 unified memory, a faster Blu-ray Disc drive, and custom chips dedicated to audio, video and background processing tasks.

Among the new applications and services, Sony will use the PlayStation App, possibly those who have a PS4 convert smartphones and tablets into a second screen to improve playability or external keyboards for more convenience at the time of writing. The company also planned to debut with Gaikai, a cloud-based gaming service that hosts downloadable content and games

Presentation
At the beginning of 2013, Sony announced that an event called PlayStation Meeting 2013 would serve to publicize the "future of Playstation" .15 16 17 18 19 On February 20, 2013 this event took place in New York and that lasted about two hours the company announced the successor of the PlayStation 3.9 The announcement was offered live through Ustream.9

At the GDC conference of 2013, Sony presented new details about video games and features of the PlayStation 4.20 Videogames shown include Primal Carnage Genesis, Blacklight Retribution, Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Watch Dogs and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

On June 10, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) Sony held a conference, in which more details were given, and showed the PlayStation 4, among them, finally the design, price and launch.22 Some details that were revealed are that the game console could play used video games, as long as they are original, and would not need an Internet connection to play. Finally, the presentation concluded with the price, which turned out to be 399 dollars, 349 pounds and 399 euros, which impressed a lot, because its competitor the Xbox One would cost 499 US dollars, 429 pounds and 499 euros

Hardware
The design of the console was not revealed in the PlayStation Meeting, since the design and specifications were still not finalized. The weight of the console would be around 2.8 kg and the total box would be about 4 kg.27 PlayStation 4 technology would be relatively similar to the hardware found in personal computers.28 At some point in the development it was contemplated that Nvidia was the one who manufactured the graphics unit for PS4 but according to statements by Tony Tamasi, vice president of content and technology of Nvidia this would not suit the company because of the impact it would have on its possibilities in other markets.29 With the decision to move Cell's architecture at x86-64 would be easier and less expensive for studios to develop games for the PS4.30 31 The physical console was finally presented at the Sony conference on the PS4 on June 10, 2013 at E3 2013, as well as reveal more detailed data of the device and peripherals
