The mysterious murder of a couple in a po[CENSORED]r tourist area of Canada (and why they suspect two teenagers who are missing)

La estadounidense Chynna Deese y el australiano Lucas Fowler

First, the lifeless bodies of two young travelers were found. Then two teenagers disappeared. And then there was the finding of a third body.

Police in Canada are investigating a series of incidents in the province of British Columbia (west of the country) that began with the murder of two tourists traveling through that region last week.

American Chynna Deese, 24, and Australian Lucas Fowler, 23, were shot dead last week when they were enjoying a two-week trip to Canada, where Fowler worked.

The bodies of both were found on July 15 on the side of a road 20 km south of Liard Hot Springs, a po[CENSORED]r tourist enclave.

Shortly thereafter, the disappearance of Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, who traveled to the Yukon Territory (in northern British Columbia) in a van that was found burned, was found missing last week.

And then the body of a 50 or 60-year-old man was found near that vehicle near Dease Lake.

In an unexpected turn of the investigation, on Tuesday the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that McLeod and Schmegelsky are no longer considered missing, but possible criminals on the run.

"The RCMP is considering Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky as suspects in the investigation into the death of Dease Lake and the double homicide of Lucas Fowler and Chynna Deese," the RCMP said in a statement.

"Couple in love"
It took the police three days to identify Deese and Fowler after they were found dead on July 15.

Authorities found a 1986 Chevrolet truck near the bodies and some witnesses told the media that they had seen the couple on the side of the road next to the vehicle after it suffered a breakdown.
