The president in dispute in Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said he is committed to take "seriously" the recommendations of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, with whom he met this Friday in Caracas. "There will be different criteria, there are always different countries, but I have told you that you can count on me, as president, to take your suggestions, your recommendations and your proposals with all seriousness," Maduro said after dismissing Bachelet in the presidential palace of Miraflores.

Accused of opposition to systematic violations of fundamental guarantees and of plunging the country into economic chaos, the president also guaranteed that those responsible for human rights violations will be prosecuted without distinction. The purpose is that "the institutions are protected and also bring to trial anyone who violates human rights in whatever instance, whoever it may be. I have given all my guarantees, "he said. Bachelet and Maduro held a meeting of almost two hours, after that in the morning the commissioner met with the opposition Juan Guaidó, head of the Parliament recognized as interim agent for fifty countries led by the United States. "It has been a good visit, and I hope the spirit of this visit will deprive us of new relations with the office of the High Commissioner and our country," said the socialist leader, who thanked Bachelet for accepting his invitation. The Chilean president will offer this Friday night a single statement to the press at the Maiquetía airport, near Caracas, before leaving.
