Neymar loses Copa América due to an ankle injury

Neymar was left out of the Copa América due to the "seriousness" of the right ankle injury during the Brazilian Selecao friendly against Qatar, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) informed early on Thursday.

"Due to the severity of the injury, Neymar will not have physical conditions or sufficient recovery time to participate in the Copa América Brasil 2019," the CBF said in a statement. The note notes that the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) striker suffered a "ligament tear in his right ankle."

Seleçao's technical commission, he adds, will meet Thursday to discuss the appointment of a substitute for number 10.
