Members of the World Medical Association (WMA) have asked for a revision of the new rules of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). According to the innovation, from May 8, 2019, female athletes with elevated testosterone levels need to take drugs to reduce it in order to participate in competitions. According to doctors, it can harm the health of athletes.

“There are doubts about the medical component of the rules”
In the capital of Chile, Santiago, an extraordinary meeting of the Council of the World Medical Association was held, at which WMA members demanded the immediate abolition of the new IAAF rules, according to which athletes with elevated testosterone levels are required to take hormonal drugs to reduce it.

Thus, a statement issued by the organization based on the work of the WMA Executive Committee states that forcing the above drugs to be used is a case of blatant discrimination based on the innate, genetic characteristics of female athletes and contradicts international standards of medical ethics and human rights.
