Rayan™ Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Emergency service workers formed human chain to save treasures The mayor of Paris tweeted her thanks to the city's workers, saying: "Thank you to the @PompiersParis policemen and the municipal agents who have made this evening a tremendous human chain to save the works of #NotreDame. The Crown of thorns, the tunic of Saint Louis and several other major works are now in a safe place." Next steps for the cathedral Gabriel Plus, spokesperson for Paris firefighters, said emergency services are currently "surveying the movement of the structures and extinguishing smoldering residues." Efforts are also being taken to ensure the building is as stable as it can be. 09:53 Plans to rebuild President Macron has pledged to rebuild the cathedral and is setting up an international fundraiser. French billionaire François-Henri Pinault has given €100m towards efforts. He said: "This tragedy strikes all the French and beyond all those who are attached to spiritual values. Faced with such a tragedy, everyone wants to revive this jewel of our heritage as quickly as possible. "My father and I have decided to release from the funds of Artemis a sum of €100m (£86.4m) to participate in the effort that will be necessary for the complete reconstruction of Notre Dame." Mr Pinault, who is married to actress Salma Hayek, was joined by LVMH chief executive Bernard Arnault who offered €200m (£173m) to reconstruct the "symbol of France".
