Their salads have been celebrated by Oprah, and snapped up by Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Hudson. Arizonans Danielle Duboise (above right) and Whitney Tingle (above left) have won quite the A-list following for plant-based meal-delivery service Sakara Life – and are on a ‘huge mission to change as many lives as possible’, says Danielle.

Sakara began as a personal endeavour to improve their own diets. For Whitney, a corporate banking career in New York meant crazy hours and mindless eating, plus almost a stone of weight gain and flare-ups of cystic acne.

Danielle, meanwhile, was desperate to break a cycle of yo-yo dieting, cleanses and detoxes, and IBS that had left her
relationship with food and health off-kilter.

The childhood friends started to create dishes majoring on leafy greens, colourful plants and healthy fats, developing a philosophy that did away with calorie-counting and placed an emphasis on nutrient-dense ingredients.

Dishes made for friends and neighbours became the basis of a meal-delivery programme that has expanded rapidly since Whitney and Danielle first dropped off breakfast pumpkin bread and butternut squash lasagne to clients on their bicycles in New York. ‘It’s been an incredible journey,’ says Whitney, ‘and we’re thrilled to inspire more people to create meals that nourish their mind, body and soul.’

Cue their first cookbook, with client favourites such as the ‘daydreamer’ soba noodle bowl with an addictive tahini and miso sauce, and a cucumber, carrot and pomegranate salad that’s ‘beauty in a bowl’. There’s even a G&T with a twist of lemon and vanilla, shared below.

Danielle stresses ‘there are no foods you can’t eat’. They work on the premise that the more leafy greens you have, the more you crave. ‘Eating this way
is truly transformative and speaks for
itself,’ says Whitney. A clutch of celebrity endorsements sweetens the deal.
