f any two words can strike fear into the hearts of busy parents, they are “school holidays”. With two whole weeks of the Easter break stretching ahead of us, keeping young minds ­occupied and young ­bodies off the sofa and away from a phone screen requires military-level planning: how far can you keep children strapped in the car for?

What supplies will you need for that hour-long walk at the other end? And how do you keep them engaged and amused throughout? Things are made more challenging when you have different aged kids to cater for, from rambunctious toddlers to hard-to-impress teens.
