Mother's Day is something to celebrate, let's not use social media to make people feel guilty about that

esterday was Mother’s Day and social media naturally was awash with heartwarming pictures of hand drawn cards, spring bouquets, breakfast trays on beds as well as the usual portrait shots of grown up mothers and daughters, grandmothers, and everyone generally beaming and thankful, taking a moment to celebrate the wonderful matriarch in their life.

But alongside the stream of gush and love ran a burbling river of discontent, emanating from those for whom Mother’s Day is no longer a day to celebrate - or perhaps never has been - but more a scab unwillingly prized open to reveal a sore and open wound.
