Spore is a life and strategy simulation video game for Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows developed by Maxis and designed by Will Wright that simulates the evolution of a kind of primitive (unicellular beings), until the colonization of the galaxy by the evolved Being . Its concept, scope and philosophy of development have attracted wide attention. With these data, it could be said that it is an excellent Lamarckist experiment. In essence, it is a game developed by EA of "evolution", you and the player decide the evolutionary process of the creature, although in a broader way: the player models (and this means that he "draws" freely the amount of the Why? How to use it? How to use it? What is the creature? Why? The species reaches a certain level of intelligence. At this point the player begins to direct and direct this society, progressing from the dawn of the civilization until you reach the capacity to explore space.

The game was first revealed and shown to the public during a speech on the procedural generation at the 2005 conference of the developers. It was published by Electronic Arts on September 7, 2008 in the United States, and 5 in Europe and Brazil (official date). The price of the game is around € 49.95 (the normal version) while in the direct download, the price rises to € 56.95. There is also a special edition called "Galactic Edition" that includes two extra DVDs ("How it was made" and "How to make the best creation"), a book of "The Art of the Spores" and a poster showing the breadth of the game, both in English with subtitles in Spanish. EA launched on June 17 in the market the creator of creatures in full at a price of € 9.95, 3 and a free version is available from the official page of Spore that will contain 25% of the functionality of the paid version . This application is included in the definitive game Spore. The departure date in Spain was September 4, 2008.4 For PC, Mac, Nintendo DS and mobile platforms. On September 8 the version for iPhone and iPod Touch emerged.

Spore is a simulation that ranges from the cellular level to the galactic level. It consists of several phases more or less long, called stadiums, each with its own style of play, and once the DNA bar that is located at the bottom is filled, the player gets the ability to evolve and move to the next stadium, or, otherwise, stay playing in the current one. The existing stages are: cell, creature, tribal, civilization and space. In his GDC speech, Wright compared the game style of each phase to an existing game.

Cell Stadium The game begins in this phase (after an introduction in which an asteroid falls on the planet that creates a new being - Panspermia), and it is also the only one in 2 dimensions, where the world will be seen as if it were done through a microscope A single unicellular organism will be controlled, which must be fed by nuclei of nutrients or other creatures, which will have defense systems, so not all of them will be edible. You also have to avoid other creatures of which the player will be the food. At the start of the game, he asks us to choose our diet, be it carnivorous or herbivorous, and omnivorous. During the development of the stage there are two status bars, which are health and DNA points. The health indicates the state of our creature and if emptied it will have been lost and therefore our individual will die and we will pass to control another of the same species but you start with the same girl.

On the other hand, the DNA serves to indicate how close it is to reach the next stage of evolution, which will be reached when this bar has been completely filled. However, the DNA bar, as in the following stages, subdivides each determined number of DNA points, which, when reached, allow unlocking new parts for our creature. We will get a DNA point per piece of meat or plant eaten. Once it is filled and reaches the first subdivision, a message appears on the screen that says that we look for a pair by means of the "call" option with which the creature editor is accessed and our creature is evolved. In this phase the editor is very rudimentary, offering a few options to customize our creature such as a better defense, attack or speed, greater ability to feed, the shape of the creature, etc. Once enough DNA points are obtained and the DNA bar is filled, the Creature Phase will be reached, changing the view of the game to third person and showing what the creature will look like.

Creature Stadium This phase will start on the earth with a three-dimensional view. As in the previous phase, only one creature will be controlled, although you can create a group of them (of the same species or not) if you interact enough with them. There will also be other creatures, some of them very simple and small and others more complex and large but that can be used as food for ours or as allies, although there will also be predators that will feed the player. There are also gigantic creatures in this stadium: the epic creatures. They are giant versions of the creatures, very difficult to hunt and there is no editor for these creatures. Sometimes, the game uses creatures that are stored (for example: if I have a high-necked creature called Galapas, the game can use that creature as an epic). These gigantic creatures are the most dangerous (being the second the only creatures) and also have different abilities, such as throwing fireballs from the mouth or being able to grab creatures and throw them, sometimes chewing them. In addition, there is another special type of creatures: rogues, who have 250 health points and a high level of both attack and social.

Usually they go solo and it is easy to ally with them, getting a powerful incorporation to the herd. To advance within this phase, the player must call a partner: a creature of the same species but of the opposite sex. Once this is done, the creator editor will appear. In this creator (already more advanced than the previous one) it will be possible to define the aspects that the new generation will have, although there are genetic points (like money), which limit the ability to do this. These points are used to acquire different elements for our creature, which will have a certain cost and you can not use more points than you have. There is also a limiter that increases when a part is placed, depending on the part and how much is altered (ex: change the position of the knees or the shape of the legs, lengthening them or camping their standing position). This will increase a lot or a little. If you reach the limit, you can not place more parts even if you still have DNA. Be careful, as a rain of asteroids can get in your way.
