Cities: Skylines is a city construction video game created by the Finnish video game developer Colossal Order and published by Paradox Interactive on March 10, 2015 for Windows, OS X and Linux. It is po[CENSORED]rly considered as the competitor of the most famous games within this genre, mainly the SimCity (2013) and to a lesser extent the XXL Cities. On February 16, 2017 the edition was announced, optimized by Tantalus Media, for Windows 10 and Xbox One. It includes the After Dark expansion. Sales during those 24 hours, exceeded 250,000 sales and another 16% of pirated copies. , surpasses the 5,000,000 of sales. On August 15 of that same year the edition of PlayStation 4 went on sale.

Cities: Skylines focuses on a simulation of the construction of cities through urban planning. Players control zoning, road construction, taxes, utilities and public transportation. The gameplay is open, advertised as "an infinite sandbox type gameplay through massive maps." Civil policies determined by the player can affect the entire development of the entire city or individual districts. Roads can be built straight or free-form and the grid used for zoning is adapted to the shape of the road; cities need to follow a hypodamic plan. The roads of different widths (up to main highways) admit different amount of traffic, and several types of roads (for example roads with trees) offer a reduction of the acoustic contamination or increase the urban valuation in the surrounding one in exchange for a greater cost for the player. The creation of mods, adding content created by users as constructions or vehicles, will be added to Skylines; The creation of an active modder community is an explicit design objective. This content will be available for download through Steam Workshop. It only works for a 64-bit operating system.

The Finnish developer Colossal Order has been wanting to create a game broader than its previous game focused on transport (Cities in Motion) for some time, but could not ensure funding by publisher Paradox Interactive. Cites: Skylines was announced by Paradox on August 14, 2014 at Gamescom during its Alpha phase. The trailer emphasized that players could "Build their dream city", "Create and share mods" and "Play offline" - the third feature was taken by journalists as a mockery of SimCity, which initially required an internet connection.

Skylines uses and adapts the Unity engine with official support for modifications. At the beginning of September 2014, the premiere was estimated for the first or second quarter of 2015; Colossal Order hopes to continue the development of Skylines after its premiere. On February 10, 2015, a trailer announced the departure date to March 10 of the same year.

[Citation needed] Green Cities It was announced on August 22, 2017 and was released at the end of October.

Its content offers mayors the opportunity to move forward cities that are more sustainable and friendly to the environment. Green Cities adds 350 new elements to the game, new visual options, eco-friendly buildings, organic stores, electric vehicles, new parks or new services designed to reduce and eliminate pollution. These innovations will allow players to create more diverse cities or to bet on building completely green cities. The new services and buildings will arrive together with a review of the contamination, both environmental and acoustic.
