Infiniti introduced the QX50 at the Los Angeles Auto Show with the goal of standing up to the German premium SUVs. Although some of the secrets of this premium crossover have already been revealed before its official premiere, since its first official image was published, we now know all its details. However, the great bet of the QX50 goes through its variable compression engine.

The date of the debut of the new Infiniti QX50 arrived and the teaser and the first official photo of the premium SUV of the brand gave way to a pompous presentation in which it was clear the remarkable bet that the brand has made with this model, with a deep redesign in his front. Presents LED headlights and a grid with a more elegant design than the current model. It is clear that the production QX50 will be quite true to the QX50 Concept seen at the beginning of the year.

Beyond the original teaser, the roof of the new QX50 has a slight backward drop, which contrasts with the final profile of the windows. A roof that ends in a small spoiler and that gives way to a rear where its optical groups have a horizontal design. The bumper area is completed with a double exhaust, which is a symptom, along with the rest of its design features, a more sporty and 'youthful' aesthetic than the outgoing model, but without renouncing the natural elegance of the models of Infiniti. The 19 or 20 inch wheels complete the equation.

Inside, a minimalist finish has been chosen with a digital instrument screen, as was seen in the QX50 Concept, although almost more important than the changes in its interior is its improved habitability and the step forward at the level of comfort. With 4.69 meters long, 1.90 meters wide and 1.68 meters high, the QX50 credits a spacious interior worthy of larger models, despite having dimensions similar to the BMW X3.  The adjustable rear seats will improve the leg room of passengers or the capacity of the boot. The wood and leather finishes and its 8-inch touch screen, its second 7-inch screen or the Head-Up Display give the technological touch to its interior.

On a mechanical level, the QX50 will be the first Infiniti model to assemble the new turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with variable compression technology -which replaces the traditional 3.7-liter V6 of the brand-, with a power of 268 horses and a pair of 288 Newton metro. This VC-Turbo engine is associated with a change by XTRONIC inverter that has been redesigned to reproduce a traditional eight-speed automatic gearbox. Lateral traction is standard, while all-wheel drive will be optional.

This engine, equipped with a single 'elliptical device' called a multilink, promises fuel consumption of a diesel - saving 27% - and adjusts its compression ratio between 8: 1 and 14: 1, according to the needs required. The benefits of this engine will be further enhanced by the use of a new platform of front wheel drive steel very resistant, which will improve the rigidity of the previous model by 23%.

The VC-Turbo engine coupled with the CVT transmission among other aspects allows an acceleration from 0 to 100 in 6.7 seconds for its front-wheel drive version and 6.3 seconds in the QX50 with all-wheel drive. The maximum speed in both versions is 230 kilometers / hour.  Finally, Infiniti has revealed that the QX50 will equip Nissan's ProPILOT semi-autonomous driving technology.

The car will be able to control acceleration, braking and steering on one-way roads. There is no shortage of other driving aids such as the frontal collision prevention system, the blind spot warning system, the collision intervention system or emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
