AMD's Zen 2 architecture takes the company's processors down a new path that takes them away from the monolithic designs of the past. This movement has caused the company to depend on several manufacturers to manufacture the same product, and that offers AMD much more versatility when it comes to managing its lines. According to Semi Wiki sources, AMD plans to split the manufacturing of its new 5 nm chips between Samsung and TSMC, and expects to reach the mass production pace at the same time. TSMC was the first to manufacture in 7 nm, so AMD had to bet everything for TSMC. Samsung will have to put the batteries with their 5 nm if you want to be up to the task.

With regard to the manufacturing nodes of the future, AMD wants to leave its options open in order to take full advantage of the competition in the semiconductor industry. It is expected that the 5 nm nodes of TSMC and Samsung will come to be used en masse at the same time and with similar performance and uses. According to the TSMC road map, that should happen during the second half of 2019.
