#Drennn.
(JTA) — A Palestinian teenager was killed amid rioting Friday by thousands of protesters near the fence that separates the Gaza Strip from Israel. In addition to the 15-year-old whom Palestinian sources reported killed, 41 people were injured in clashes, the Israel Broadcasting Corp., or Kan, reported. Separately, dozens of Muslims held a street prayer near the Golden Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem in what Kan described as a protest rally. Worship at the site has been banned by Israeli authorities since 2003, when they shuttered an Islamic charity they said was linked to Hamas that had operated at the gate compound. Several dozen people were arrested at that event. Despite these tensions and weekly confrontations near the Gaza border throughout January and February, both months have seen relatively low levels of hostilities. The Israel Security Agency in January documented 160 terrorist attacks on Israelis in January, constituting no significant increase over the December tally of 155. No one was killed in the January incidents, according to the agency’s monthly report, which was published last week.
