France and Austria will recognize Guaidó if Maduro does not call presidential elections

"If tonight, (the president) Maduro does not commit to organize presidential elections, then France will consider Juan Guaidó legitimate in his place," said France's Minister of European Affairs, Nathalie Loiseau.

 

France said it would recognize Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó as interim ruler if Nicolás Maduro does not announce Sunday night that there will be presidential elections. "If tonight, (the president) Maduro does not commit to organize presidential elections, then France will consider Juan Guaidó legitimate in his place and we will consider him as interim president until legitimate elections are held in Venezuela," said the Minister of European Affairs.

"I just had a very good phone conversation with President @jguaido," Kurz wrote on Twitter. "He has our full support to restore democracy in Venezuela."

The French minister rejected Maduro's proposal to hold a parliamentary election and called it a "farce."
