Sleek Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake on the way, with an expected debut towards the end of 2019 A new Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake is set to join the German brand's range, and these spy shots show that development is underway ahead of an official reveal expected in autumn 2019. As a compact premium estate, the CLA Shooting Brake will have no direct rivals. Audi currently produces a saloon version of the A3 to compete with the regular CLA, and while BMW is preparing a 2 Series Gran Coupe to compete in the same class, there’s no official word on an estate variant. • Best estate cars currently on sale It’s the second generation of the mini estate, and based on these images of a disguised prototype, it suggests that the Shooting Brake will prioritise a sporty look over outright practicality.

Through the camouflage it’s clear to see a sleek profile, and a roofline which tapers away towards the back end as opposed to giving a large boot opening. Details like the lights are mostly hidden, but we expect a front end which bears a resemblance to the A-Class, and rear lights whose flat shape bear resemblance to the larger CLS. Under the skin, the CLA Shooting Brake will be mechanically similar to the A-Class hatchback, and as a result will be powered by the same petrol and diesel units. The A-Class range currently features a 1.5-litre turbo diesel with 114bhp, a 1.3-litre turbo petrol with 134bhp or 161bhp, and a 2.0-litre turbo with 221bhp.
