                                                         Copa Ecuador

The FEF Ecuador Cup, better known as Ecuador Cup, is a football competition played under the direct elimination system, in which clubs from all divisions of the Ecuadorian soccer leagues and Amateur Football participate. It is organized by the Ecuadorian Football Federation.

It has drawn much attention in recent weeks the fact that 8 of the 12 teams participating in the Serie A of Ecuadorian soccer classify a South American tournament next season.

A really "generous" championship in which any team in the world would like to compete. It ends up being unprecedented that of 12 clubs, 8 end up winning, 2 descended and 2 in "the limbo".

I have absolutely nothing against Fuerza Amarilla, but it is incredible that a team that fought a good part of the season for not going down, in the end qualified for a South American tournament.

This ends up being an apology for mediocrity and that does not do our football good.

It is true that this occurred due to the non-participation of Mexican clubs in Copa Libertadores, which in turn gave Ecuador a place more in that tournament and consequently also one more in Copa Sudamericana; However, if these 8 seats are maintained for the next season, the directors of the Ecuadorian Football Federation should find another way to award the eighth place to a South American tournament.

I propose the creation of the "Ecuador Cup", which is already disputed in several South American countries.

Tournament with matches of direct elimination until arriving at the great final, where the champion would classify to the South American Glass like "Ecuador 1".

This would also open the doors for the "Supercopa de Ecuador", between the Serie A champion and the "Ecuador Cup" champion.

This new tournament would be a unique opportunity for the teams considered "small", who often get stuck in Second Category, play against the Ecuadorian soccer greats and fulfill the dream of stepping into the stadiums where they never thought they were going to play.

The "Ecuador Cup" would also be very useful to discover new national talents that play in the Second Category and also for the big clubs to give young players an opportunity to play or to players that are little used in the championship.

In this tournament the 12 teams from the Serie A, the 12 from the Serie B and the clubs that form part of the Second Category would participate.

The matches would be played midweek, on Wednesdays, logically avoiding matches with Copa Libertadores or South American dates, something completely feasible since these tournaments will be played throughout the year and will be much longer.

We have participated in 3 World Cups, Liga de Quito has won 4 trophies at the South American level and several of our players shine abroad, we must continue to evolve.
