Hanley Ramirez is training in his native Dominican Republic and plans to play in that country's winter league in order to return to the Major Leagues, according to Jon Heyman of the MLB Network.

The Red Sox dropped Ramírez on May 30 after having an offensive line of .254 / .313 / .395 with six homers in 44 games of the last year of a four-year contract and $ 88 million. That performance included a month of May in which he hit .163 / .200 / .300. The Red Sox were still paying him US $ 14.4 million when the movement was made.

In 14 seasons in the Major Leagues, Ramírez has an offensive line of .290 / .361 / .487 with 269 homers. He was the Rookie of the Year for the National League with the Marlins and was called to three All-Star Games. The best stretch of his career was from 2007 to 2010 with the Fishes, a period in which he hit .319 / .394 / .532 with 107 homers.

The injuries have plagued Ramírez since then, although he remained in health during his first five full years of his career. From 2011 to 2018, he averaged 112 matches per campaign.
