The trash left by mountaineers for decades has become an urgent issue for the government of Nepal.

Nine members of an expedition died after a violent snow storm that swept them down a cliff on Mount Gurja in Nepal.

It is one of the deadliest mountaineering accidents that have hit the Himalayan nation in recent years.

On Saturday morning, a rescue team spotted the bodies of eight climbers, four South Koreans and four Nepalese guides, near the remains of their camp, but strong winds hampered the search.

A fifth South Korean climber was in the camp during the deadly storm on Friday and also perished, confirmed the South Korean Foreign Ministry, Yahoo News reported .

Helicopter pilot Siddartha Gurung was one of the first people to arrive at the site after the deadly storm and described a scene of total destruction.

He said that all the tents had been crushed, reduced to a tangle of tarps and broken surveys, and that the bodies of the climbers were scattered over a wide area , including some in a riverbed about 500 meters from the main camp.
