French soccer legend Thierry Henry signed a contract as the new coach of Monaco until 2021, the Principality club reported Saturday.

Henry, 41, was until now the assistant coach of Belgium, led by Spaniard Roberto Martinez. In Monaco he will live his first experience as head coach and "will take the reins of the group on Monday," added the entity.

"You can count on our trust and all our support to bring a new dynamic to the team and carry out its mission," said Monaco Vice President Vadim Vasilyev.

After signing his contract this Saturday, Henry will travel to London. He will return to the Principality on Sunday and start directing the team on Monday at the club's training center in La Turbie.

The Monaco fired technician Leonardo Jardim this week, after a start well below expectations. It occupies the 18th position of Ligue 1 after the ninth day.
