Toyota has presented at the New York Motor Show in March 2018, the new generation of the Toyota RAV4, which will have a new platform and a new 2.5 hybrid engine as main novelties. This will be the fifth generation of the RAV4, a model that saw the light back in 1994 and was one of the pioneers in the SUV segment.

The new generation, which still has no launch date, arrives to replace the fourth-generation RAV4 that was introduced in 2013. The new Toyota RAV4 will be mounted on the new modular platform TNGA that will share with the new Toyota Auris and that already use models like the C-HR or the Prius. Despite launching a completely new platform the new RAV4 will not grow along with the current generation, thus remaining at 4.6 meters. The battle does grow 3cm, getting a somewhat wider interior space. This will also help the width that increases 1cm to 1.8 meters.

Its design also varies with noticeably more robust lines that give the vehicle a more adventurous air, in this aspect also highlights the increase in free height compared to the ground. The new RAV4 will have two engines, also new. First of all we will find a 2.5 hybrid that, according to the brand, will have a better response and will be more efficient. There will also be a 2.0 gasoline engine that can be associated with a manual change, although taking into account the trend of the brand towards hybridization it would not be surprising that this variant did not reach our market.

With the arrival of the new TGNA platform the new Toyota RAV4 will also see its improved dynamic behavior, since it will have a lower center of gravity and a more optimized weight distribution. However within the dynamic behavior will be the system of all-wheel drive the most improvements received. In the hybrid version we will have a second electric motor only dedicated to the rear axle thus achieving a higher torque but also increasing the efficiency and smoothness of the vehicle's operation.

In the model with petrol engine the total traction also improves offering in the automatic versions the decoupling of the rear axle to improve consumption. Although the release date has not yet been revealed, we estimate that it will arrive in the second half of 2018.
