Microsoft wants all Skype users to enjoy the news that includes version 8 of this chat platform and video calls. For her, the company has decided to resort to a technique that has already been used in other occasions, and to block the old versions from November to encourage users to update.

So all users who continue using the versions before 8 starting in November will not be able to log in. "As we continue to focus and improve Skype version 8, compatibility with versions 7 and following will end," explained on the Microsoft website where the ad was published.

The key dates are November 1 for the PCs, while the versions for mobile phones and tablets will have two more weeks of margin until November 15, time to spare to update Skype to the new version.

In the month of August, Microsoft said they were working on including Skype 7 features preferred by users in the Skype 8 version. Meanwhile, the old version would still be available, until now they have put a final date.

For some media this end comes a little early, as Onmsft explains there is still no complete equality between both versions and the most modern has received much criticism since its launch last year. The web ensures that users prefer the Skype Classic version because it was created from scratch for the desktop, unlike Skype 8, which is a cross-platform application that uses a user interface inspired by mobile devices.

Microsoft says it is working on performance improvements, the search option in the conversation, as well as the configuration to change the desktop source or share a Skype contact among many other functions. It also gives a list of functions that will come later as a resizable left panel on the desktop or an indicator to know who is speaking at that moment.

To continue implementing these functions Microsoft has enabled several sites to receive complaints or suggestions from users that you can find in this post, along with instructions to update the version before November and all the news in which they are currently working.
