Venezuelan Victor Martinez announced that this Saturday will end his career of 16 seasons in the Major Leagues with his last game in Detroit
AP | DETROIT.- Víctor Martínez will be in the lineup for the last time on Saturday in Detroit. The Detroit Tigers' veteran slugger announced Friday night against a 4-3 setback against the Kansas City Royals that will end his 16-year major league career on Saturday.

Martinez will stay on the bench in the final game of the series on Sunday against Kansas City and will accompany the team without playing on their last tour.

"I feel like I owe it to the fans to have my last at-bats here," said Martinez, who will be honored at a pregame ceremony.

Martinez, 39, spent seven seasons with Detroit, eight with the Cleveland Indians and two with the Boston Red Sox. He was selected to the All-Star Game five times, reached the postseason five times, but never advanced to a World Series.

"When I say that I am leaving this game without remorse, I will leave the game without remorse," said Martinez, who is hitting .249 this season with nine homers and 54 runs produced. '' I'm going home happy because I know I left everything. I would not do anything else. I'll be home sitting on the couch, saying I left everything in this game. "
