A Chinese hospital ship arrived in Venezuela at a time when the South American country suffers from a serious economic crisis that has attracted international attention. The vessel "Arco de la Paz" was received by Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino and other officials.

The ship is on tour in several countries allied with China. The global interest in the Chinese ship has increased since last month the Pentagon reported that it was sending its own hospital ship to neighboring Colombia, to treat Venezuelan migrants who have fled in droves in the face of widespread shortages of food and medicines in his country. This type of assistance has been part of US diplomacy in Latin America for decades. But the Chinese ship has been in South America only once before.
