Based on brilliant performances inside the cage and proudly raising the flag of Venezuela, Omar Morales is forging a path in mixed martial arts (MMA) that has taken an international boom in recent years.

In his seven professional fights, the 32-year-old has been the winner in a sport that needs discipline, effort, dedication and perseverance as fundamental virtues for an MMA fighter to be successful.

"It has not been an easy road. The injuries made me lose great opportunities, but the constancy and fidelity to my goals have brought me closer to my goal, "Morales said exclusively to El Nacional Web.

His hard and long work paid off when, on August 17, in the US city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, he knocked Troy Nawrocki out in 58 seconds in his first fight at Bellator MMA, one of the most promising companies and promoters. great of that country.

"Since I left I felt great because I wanted to be in an event of such magnitude. I felt very calm and serene. I had trained enough and with a lot of discipline, I only had one man in front preventing what I have fought so much. I told my friends and my father: 'I can not go alone to win, I must take this opportunity and show my talent, I'm going to knock him out'. In the fight I saw everything very clear and the knockout came practically alone. I had a great explosion of joy and of course I dedicated my triumph to the country where I come from. I visualized many times to raise the flag of Venezuela within that scenario, "he said.

After that, Morales did not go unnoticed and received many messages from compatriots through social networks. "It was incredible. When I took my phone I could not believe it. The response from my people was surprising. It was impossible to answer everything at once. It took me days, but I responded to each of the messages or comments sent to me, which sometimes made me cry. Venezuelans in all parts of the world and best of all: each one of those messages filled me with the desire to train even stronger and reach more in this sport ".

From an early age he followed in the footsteps of his father, a former champion of Fullcontact and creator of the Free System of Martial Arts (SLAM), who as a teacher and mentor taught him everything about this sport discipline. Nor did he forget his mother who never doubted him and his goals.

"My father has been my teacher and he gave me a great martial base. I made a career as a Fullcontact fighter, where I won three titles, but I was always struck by MMA. I started to practice jiu-jitsu and fight for a while, I evolved quite fast, I even won national and international competitions in this modality. At the beginning, I had a great commitment to bear the same name and be the teacher's son. When I started to fight MMA he was not very happy, I wanted him to continue with my career in professional Fullcontact; but I knew that martial arts were evolving and that MMA would be a great sport. After my first fight, he came back to help me with my preparations, "he said.

The Caracas native, who has a third black belt from SLAM and a purple belt from Brazilian jiu-jitsu, explains that his day-to-day life is quite active with his training and preparation for a fight.

"It's quite demanding, somewhat exhausting; but as long as you love what you do, there is no way to stop. Currently, I am training with what I consider to be the best teams in Miami, Florida. Base camp I do in Hard Knocks 365 and I complement the jiu-jitsu part in Fight Sports. Both teams are full of great athletes. I demand a lot. I am 100% disciplined at the time of my preparation, both in training and in the diet for weight cutting. I always go to the tatami with the desire to learn something new, be it from my teachers or from my classmates; I have never failed on the scale and arrived in optimal conditions at 155 pounds, "he said.

He considers that the fact of having participated in companies like Gladiators of Venezuela, Pugilatus MMA, Supremacy MMA, Eye 4N Eye Fighting Championship, Fight Time Promotions, Latin Fighter Championship, has helped him to develop in the international arena.

"When I got to Hard Knocks 365, head coach Henri Hooft liked my fighting style a lot, he tested me for a while, I showed him he was ready, then he made it happen. To make yourself known internationally, you must fight, show that you are good in each of the matches and trainings. You have to earn your place and respect as a professional; otherwise, you'll be in the corner of mediocre athletes, "he said.

Represent Venezuela and its objectives in the future

Little by little, the Venezuelans appear on the scene, making themselves a place in this sport abroad; for Morales it's no surprise, because he thinks that there is enough Creole talent that can figure and it's only a matter of time before they go out and knock on the doors.

With regard to what will come later in his career, he preferred to be cautious and let the facts speak for him, and not the words: "My goals are quite big and my way of working is silent, but there will be very good news soon. MMA is a sport that for many is new, but every day it becomes more attractive. Now, with Venezuelans present in this world and representing abroad, I think people in Venezuela will be more aware of getting involved in sports. "
