The ONU affirms that information about deaths due to malnutrition in Venezuela continues to arrive

Claims of arbitrary detention, abuse and restrictions on freedom of expression in the country also continue.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, said Monday that they have received information since last June about cases of deaths related to malnutrition and preventable diseases in Venezuela.

In his first speech before the Human Rights Council
of the UN, the new high commissioner has ensured that in the same period continued the allegations of arbitrary detention, abuse and restrictions on freedom of expression in the country

"The government has not shown openness to a genuine accountability," he said in reference to the human rights violations documented by the UN during the mass protests of 2017.

Bachelet, who assumed the post of high commissioner last week, has said that the exodus of Venezuelans demonstrates the importance of protecting human rights in all circumstances and, in this particular case, of helping the countries that are receiving them.

In this sense, it has estimated in 2.3 million the number of people who have fled the country until July 1, which is equivalent to 7% of the total po[CENSORED]tion.
