On Tuesday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, issued a statement denouncing the actions of interference by the European Union (EU), in the internal affairs of that country.

"For many years EU senior officials added to the historical achievements of Eurointegration the fact that it helped European peoples to 'build bridges, not walls', and it is a pity that the Union has betrayed its own slogans, to criticize and then sanction a construction project that practically cemented the merger of the Crimean peninsula with its historic homeland, becoming a monument to the freedom and unity of the Russian people, "says the text reviewed by Sputnik.

In the complaint, Russia catalogs as a pretext the arguments put forward by the European Commission, which was established in Brussels, to generate the new sanctions against Russia, which extend until April 23, 2019 in response to the "illegal" annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol

In the text, it also indicates that the international body will at some point have to consider the damages that those decisions generate in its image, as well as the economic consequences it currently pays to fulfill "the anti-Russian whims of the Kiev authorities".

In addition, the complaint refers that as a result of the decisions of this instance, many construction companies of the old continent could be affected by the creation of, "artificial barriers to the improvement of the life of the Crimeans."

Relations between Moscow and a group of governments of Western countries worsened in the wake of the situation in Ukraine and the accession of Crimea to Russia in March 2014, when in a referendum more than 96% of voters supported the annexation to Russia.

Since then, these governments have approved several packages of sanctions against the Eurasian country, which has provoked criticism from Moscow and its retaliatory reactions. On embargoes imposed by Europe, Russia expressed in May its hope that the EU is aware of the damage caused by sanctions to its relations with Western countries.
