Satellite images indicate that North Korea has begun to dismantle key facilities at a site used to develop ballistic missile engines, the first step to fulfill a promise made to President Donald Trump at a summit in June, a group of experts said on Monday.

Images July 20 showed that it had carried out work at the station satellite launch Sohae to dismantle a building assembly and test site used to develop engines liquid fuel for ballistic missiles, the "38 North group said "

"Given that these facilities are believed to have played an important role in the development of technologies for the intercontinental ballistic missile program, these efforts represent an important confidence-building measure on the part of North Korea," the group said in a report. .

Trump said at a press conference following his June 12 summit with Kim Jong Un that the North Korean leader had promised that a major missile engine test site would be destroyed soon.

The president did not specifically identify the site, but later a US official told Reuters that the place was Sohae.
