G.O.G Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos on Saturday asked his US counterpart, Donald Trump, to ask Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop supporting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. "To help solve the crisis in Venezuela, I ask President Trump to ask Putin to stop supporting the Maduro regime," Santos said, according to international agencies. On May 21 Putin congratulated his Venezuelan colleague for his re-election in the presidential elections and expressed his willingness to continue promoting cooperation between the two countries. Putin "was convinced that the activity of President Maduro at the head of the State will ensure the development of strategic partnership relations that exist between the two countries," according to a statement from the Kremlin. Venezuelan relations with Russia lived during the presidency of Hugo Chávez (1999-2013) a relaunch in various areas such as energy, military and cooperation that has maintained Maduro throughout his term.
