British Prime Minister Theresa May has appointed Dominic Raab as his new minister for Brexit on Monday after the resignation of his predecessor, David Davis, on Sunday for his disagreements with the premier's position on the policy of the Government facing the exit of the EU.

"The Queen is delighted to approve the appointment of Deputy Dominic Raab as Secretary of State for the Exit of the European Union," May's office said in a statement.

Raab was until now Minister of Housing and was one of the most prominent members of the Brexit campaign in the face of the June 2016 referendum.

The resignation of Davis came after May announced on Friday an agreement with the Executive on the "collective" negotiating position, while stressing that the United Kingdom will leave the EU on March 29, 2019.

In his first remarks after presenting his letter of resignation on Sunday, Davis has defended on Monday that it would not have been "plausible" to remain in office because of his differences with May.

Speaking to BBC Radio, he stressed that a minister in any Executive disagrees with between 10 and 20% of the decisions of the Government, although he has argued that in this case he is not satisfied with a "central" issue in your responsibilities

"The truth is that there are many things that you do not agree with in a government, and that is normal, but if it is something central, about your policies, your department (...) is something more relevant", he explained.
