England today qualified for the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Russia after eliminating Colombia in the penalty shootout (3-4).


A failure of Villarreal player Carlos Bacca in the ninth pitch allowed Englishman Eric Dier to get the final penalty that gave them their first pass to the quarterfinals since 2006.

Before, Colombia had forced the extension in the 93rd minute thanks to a header from Yerry Mina, balancing the goal that Harry Kane had previously scored in the second half.

England will face a semi-final place against Sweden, who beat Switzerland 1-0.
