The World Cup kicks off Thursday, the opening match of the competition, which will end in one month between Russia and Saudi Arabia, at 18.00.

32 teams, including the host country, have one goal at the first World Championship final tournament in Eastern Europe to win the trophy of the competition. For the first time in a World Championship, the 2018 edition also comes with a technological novelty: video arbitration, already tested in several major competitions.

At 17:30 on the Lujniki Stadium in Moscow in the presence of 80,000 fans and guests, the Opening Ceremony of the World Cup 2018 World Cup Tournament will begin.

More than 500 artists, gymnasts and dancers will participate in this opening ceremony. In a post on Twitter, British singer Robbie Williams has confirmed he will play the anthem of the competition alongside soprano Aida Garifullina.

Russia - Saudi Arabia will be the first match of the competition and will begin immediately after the closing ceremony.

For a month, fans will be able to watch 64 matches at the end of which the 21st World Champion will be nominated. The latest World Championship was held in Brazil in 2014.

The World Cup Trophy - is made of pure gold, has a base of 13 cm and two fragments of malachite embedded in it. The composition is two footballers who, inspired by victory, raise the earth globe. On the base are the names of the winning countries in the 20 previous editions of the FIFA World Cup.

The image of this final tournament embodies legendary goalkeeper Lev Iasin, the winner of the 1962 Golden Globe.

Leo Iaşin, dubbed the South American "Black Spider", evolved to four World Cup editions (1958, 1962, 1966, 1970). He's the only goalkeeper in history to conquer the Golden Bubble. He played all his career for one club, Dinamo Moscow. He debuted in a friendly match, where he laughed. He made his way through the goal, after the opponent broke the ball to the gate defended by Iasin. Meanwhile, Lev Iasin practiced ice hockey. The Russian won the URSS Cup at that discipline with Dinamo Moscow in 1953. Rumor has it that he managed to defend at least 150 penalties throughout his career. At his withdrawal match came about 100,000 spectators. He tried to impress as a coach, but he did not succeed. Leonid Brezhnev decorated Lev Iasin in 1967 with the Order of Lenin. He died in 1990 at the age of 60. A bronze statue was built in front of Moscow's Arenas Himki, which embodies the former goalkeeper.

"It was very important for us to portray Russia as host country on the official poster, which is why I chose Lev Iasin, a symbol of Russian football as the main figure. I am sure the poster will become one of the most important symbols of the World Championship in Russia, and fans will agree, "Russian Deputy Prime Minister for Sport, Vitali Mutko, said after the World Cup logo was made public.
