Garrix -™
Marine biology specialists have recently proposed an original solution to the problem of growing the world's jellyfish po[CENSORED]tion. Thus, they suggested that Europeans should start eating these marine organisms, according to an article published on Monday on the German Federal Government website, quoted by Xinhua, according to Agerpres. Increased sea water temperature, acidification of oceans and excessive fishing appear to have provided a favorable environment for the development of jellyfish po[CENSORED]tions. As a result, jellyfish have already destroyed fishing farms on European coasts and blocked the cooling systems of power plants. A consortium of scientific institutions from European countries, Israel and China was set up to analyze how jellyfish could be used by humans in a pleasant way in the future. The project, named GoJelly, was carried out under the coordination of the German Institute and the Helmholtz Center for Oceanic Research in Kiel (GEOMAR) and is funded by the European Union through the Horizon 2020 program. Biologist Jamileh Javidpour advised Europeans to start eating jellyfish. "We will be 9 billion people in the not too distant future, so we need to look for food sources." Jellyfish are already part of East Asian gastronomy, and we are now exploring ways to make them tasteful and understandable to people in Europe, "he said. To this end, scientists collaborate with an Italian chef who writes a recipe book with jelly preparations during this period. Researchers are also working on another potential use of these marine organisms: biofilters. Scientists are exploring the possibility that jellyfish secretions can be used as a kind of biofilter in wastewater treatment plants, reducing the risk of seas and oceans contamination with plastic microparticles.
