G.O.G Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 The Chilean Episcopal Conference presented this Friday its resignation in full (34 bishops) for the cases of sexual abuse and cover-ups occurred in that country. It is the first time in history that the totality of the prelates of the ecclesiastical institution of a nation renounced by a scandal, and highlights the damage that the case has caused in the Catholic Church. Pope Francisco, through a document, accused the hierarchy of the Church in Chile of destroying evidence of sexual crimes, of pressuring lawyers to reduce accusations and of "gross negligence" in the protection of minors against pedophile priests. For their part, the Chilean bishops issued a statement acknowledging sexual abuse and apologized to "the victims, the pope, the People of God and the country for our grave errors and omissions." Francisco called the episcopal conference after acknowledging that he himself committed "serious errors of judgment" in the case of Bishop Juan Barros, whom the victims of the predatory priest Fernando Karadima accused of witnessing the abuses and refraining from taking corrective measures. Now you must decide whether to accept the resignation or not. Hits. Pope Francis criticized and denounced on Thursday the role of the media in coups, from the residence of Casa Santa Marta. Francisco affirmed that "in civil life, in political life, when a coup d'état is wanted, the media starts talking about the people, the leaders, and with slander and defamation they make them dirty".
