Fraps is a universal Windows application that can be used with games using DirectX or OpenGL graphic technology.  In its current form Fraps performs many tasks and can best be described as:

Benchmarking Software - Show how many Frames Per Second (FPS) you are getting in a corner of your screen.  Perform custom benchmarks and measure the frame rate between any two points.  Save the statistics out to disk and use them for your own reviews and applications.

Screen Capture Software - Take a screenshot with the press of a key!  There's no need to paste into a paint program every time you want a new shot.  Your screen captures are automatically named and timestamped.

Realtime Video Capture Software - Have you ever wanted to record video while playing your favourite game?  Come join the Machinima revolution!  Throw away the VCR, forget about using a DV cam, game recording has never been this easy!  Fraps can capture audio and video up to 7680x4800 with custom frame rates from 1 to 120 frames per second!

For Fraps: With Fraps you can record videos in real time. It is mostly used to record videos from Counter-Strike.
Lesson: How to shoot fraps videos and reduce their size :

I. Recording clips via FRAPS
Let's look at the FRAPS settings. Let's start with General taba. It features basic program features.

1 - Start Fraps minimized
The program runs minimized in taskbar-a.

2 - Fraps window always on top
The Fraps window is always at the forefront. It is advisable to disable this setting because it creates problems for some games (such as Counter-Strike, for example).

3 - Run Fraps when Windows starts
Fraps starts with booting Windows

4 - Aero Desktop Monitor (DWM)
Used to capture the Desktop. It works only on Windows 7 with Aero enabled. If you do not make a game entry but press the button, then I advise you to include this feature, but only in those circumstances.

5 - Minimize to system tray only
With a command set, the program is minimized on the right side of the taskbar-a (next to the clock).

FPS tab settings.
It does not serve to capture videos! This tab adjusts the benchmark settings. The Benchmark serves to evaluate the system's capabilities in a renderer (FPS), showing the number of footage taken, the benchmark duration (in milliseconds), the highest peak and drop in frames and their average. Counter-Strike has its own FPS indicator - type in the net_graph 1 console (applies to all Counter-Strikes).

1 - Folder to save benchmarks in
Shows the path to the folder where the benchmarks will be stored. Press the "Change" button to change the folder. The "View" button opens the folder specified in the box.

2 - Overlay hotkey
Includes frame rate indicator (FPS). The indicator moves when the button is pressed again.
His position can also be determined by "Overlay Corner". The indicator disappears when "Hide overlay" is selected.
The "Only update overlay once per second" option makes the indicator count changes in FPS once per second.

3 - Benchmarking hotkey
Pressing the button starts testing the system. If the indicator is turned on when the benchmark-a is started, the background behind it will turn green and the indicator itself hides (during the test). The test ends when the key is pressed again.
Fraps can subtract results by individual parameters and in .csv format (so the parameters in "Benchmark Settings" are selected, if not selected then Fraps generates a .log file).
The program can be set to automatically stop the test after a certain period of time from the "Stop benchmark after X seconds" option, placing the duration of the test in seconds (in seconds).

1 - Folder to save movies in
Shows the path to the folder where the clips will be saved. Press the "Change" button to change the folder. The "View" button opens the folder specified in the box.

2 - Video Capture Hotkey
Pressing the button starts recording. The recording ends when it is pressed again.
NOTE: If FRAPS is not licensed / registered, recording stops automatically after 30 seconds. The link given in the tutorial is a licensed version of Fraps. If the recording stops automatically, download the program elsewhere.

3 - Video Capture Settings
The left column of "Video Capture Settings" selects how many frames per second the recording will be (30 by default). With fewer frames per second, you will get a smaller file size, but also a sharper motion of the picture when it plays back. It's also time to record 60 frames, especially if you record in HD (1280x720) or FullHD (1920x1080) resolution because YouTube supports them at higher resolutions.
In the right column, you choose whether the record should be in Full-size or Half-size resolution. Lower resolution saves system resources but video quality is lower in full screen because your media player will try to stretch 2 times more pixels to cover.
The "Split movie every 4 Gigabytes" option divides the record (if longer) into 4 gigabytes. When this limit is exceeded, the program continues to record but to a second file. This option is used when the partition on which you record the clips is on the FAT32 system. If you have such a system, turn on the option. Otherwise, do not tick. To check what the partition file system is, go to My Computer> the right soft key> Properties> the file system name is located under the partition name box.

Loop buffer length X seconds - This setting will be a bit more special. From version 3.2, Fraps provides users with the ability to add to the record the last X (in place of X put seconds in seconds) seconds before they hit the record button itself, allowing us to add to the record a missed goal, . Work on the following principle (FPS indicator is required, see FPS

4 - Sound Capture Settings

"Sound Recorder" allows / disables the program to record sounds. If you have an audio system (5.1 for example), select "Multi-channel". Otherwise, use "Stereo" (the initial setting).
"Recording an external input" is used to record the microphone. The setting underneath it makes the "push to talk" microphone (i.e., the call is recorded only if the corresponding button is held). If this setting is off, the microphone sound will be recorded automatically (without pressing any other keys).

5 -
Hide mouse cursor in video
Hides cursor (mouse) from screen during recording.

6 -
 Lock framerate while recording
The setting resembles VSync. The idea is to make the game go with as many frames per second as it is and record to prevent screen tearing.Turn on the setting only if you have problems when it is off.

7 -
Force lossless RGB capture (may be slower)
It's difficult to explain the meaning of this setting in a couple of sentences, but there is no benefit today because every uploaded YouTube video has been redesigned to use YUV420 instead of RGB. Adding the fact that there is a negative impact on system performance during recording, the difference in picture quality or color saturation is not visible, so this setting is recommended not to be turned on (initially off).
