Caracas, Apr 5 (EFE) .- Venezuelan justice accused former intelligence chief Miguel Rodríguez Torres of espionage and three other crimes, reported today the political team of the former minister who defected from Chavez last year and has become a critic of the president, Nicolás Maduro

The coordinator of the Movement Wide Desafío de Todos (Maddt), Walter Boza, led by Rodríguez Torres, reported that the former official was charged with espionage, "other crimes against the security of the National Armed Forces, conspiracy against the riot, and instigation to the rebellion. "

Boza explained that this information was corroborated yesterday by the defense lawyer, Heber Caraballo, who was able to visit the former minister for the first time since he was arrested on March 13, while he was offering a press conference in Caracas.

"Yesterday for the first time after 22 days one of the lawyers of Miguel Rodriguez Torres was allowed to visit him and had an interview with him for about an hour and yesterday he had access for the first time to the file," he said.

The coordinator of the Maddt said that a team of lawyers will attend the case of Rodriguez Torres legally, as he remarked, "as we know this is a political trial."

He said that the accusations are "absolutely rebuttable from the legal point of view," so it will be easy to "prove that it is a lie".

Boza said that close friends of the former chief of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin) fear for his life and physical integrity, although until now, he said, he is in good shape despite having lost weight since being apprehended.

Rodríguez Torres has been accused of participating in "plots" against the government of Nicolás Maduro, of which he was minister.

He was separated from the Executive three and a half years ago, announced last February that the General Comptroller imposed a political disqualification for a year, preventing him from participating in the presidential elections of May 20, a decision he called "false positive" "to get him out of the political arena.
