WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The administration of President Donald Trump has decided more than half of its funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for "future consideration," US officials said.

According to officials, the US administration decided to spend 60 million US dollars to the Agency and the blocking of 65 million others.

The United States provides about 30 percent of UNRWA's budget.

Trump had previously threatened to stop funding UNRWA if the Palestinians froze peace negotiations with Israel.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas attacked the US administration on Sunday, saying he would not accept any peace plan from the United States after it recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Abbas accused the US administration of ending the Oslo peace agreement.

It is believed that the suspension of UNRWA funding came after the US president complained that "his country receives no respect or respect" for the money it pays.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) needs to re-evaluate how it is managed and how it is funded, Reuters quoted a US official as saying on condition of anonymity.

"It is time for some rich countries to come forward and participate in supporting the peace and stability of the region," the official said.
How much does the United States provide to the Palestinians?

Last year, the United States provided $ 370 million to UNRWA, which oversees education, health and social programs.

Washington also provided $ 260 million in a bilateral agreement to support projects run by the US Agency for National Development (USAID).

Israel receives military support from Washington estimated at more than $ 3 billion a year.

The Palestinian Authority has criticized Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, saying Washington can not play the role of neutral mediator.

Members of the United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of a resolution calling on the United States to rescind its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
