In accordance with Act No. 6 of 30 April 2016, environmental police officers are empowered to record contraventions committed by those who throw garbage outside the premises reserved for them and those who incinerate garbage.

This law provides for a fine ranging from 300 to 1 000 D in case of violation of the specific hygiene and cleanliness rules (Article 10 of the Law).

This fine must be paid to the revenue of the finances, within a period not exceeding 15 days.

According to this law, it is forbidden "to dump wild waste like domestic waste from establishments, businesses and premises intended for commercial, artisanal or tourist activities or to deposit them in containers that do not comply with the standards Set by the local authority concerned or in places not reserved to them ".

More than 80% of Tunisians agree that a fine should be imposed on anyone who throws waste into the public space, according to a study carried out by the German Heinrich Böll Foundation in partnership with the office of " One to One studies for research and surveys.

Aware of the importance of environmental problems, 75% of the Tunisians surveyed ensure that they are ready to change their consumption habits and approve the abandonment of plastic bags.

According to the survey, almost 60% of Tunisians are strongly concerned by the environmental issue, although they are not at the top of their concerns, contrary to political and economic issues.
