The NBA has contacted US officials to discuss the possible impact on the league of the immigration decree passed Friday by President Donald Trump.

"We have contacted the State Department and are in the process of collecting information to understand how this executive order would apply to players in our league who are from one of the affected countries," spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement.

The spokesman recalled that the NBA is a "global" competition and said it is "proud to attract the best players from around the world."

Thon Maker of Milwaukee Bucks and Luol Deng of Los Angeles Lakers are from Sudan, one of the seven countries affected by the measures of the White House.

Maker played on Friday in Toronto and was able to return to the United States without incident even though that day began to enforce the executive order, according to his team.

In addition to potentially affected players, the league maintains a program called Basketball Without Borders, which identifies talents abroad and has facilitated, for example, young Sudanese players to play at US institutes and universities.

The Trump order suspends the granting of visas for 90 days and prohibits all citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen from entering the country until new scrutiny procedures are adopted, while stopping all reception Of refugees for 120 days and those of Syrians indefinitely.

Just a day after it began to be enforced, a federal judge blocked a portion of the measure Saturday, decreeing that refugees or other people affected by the order and who have arrived at US airports can not be deported to their countries.

Several NBA players and coaches, including stars like LeBron James and legends of the bench as Gregg Popovich, have expressed in recent months their frontal opposition to many of Trump's ideas.

Following approval of the immigration order, Brooklyn Nets player Rondae Hollis-Jefferson severely criticized the measure in statements that are collected today by several US media.
