A signing movement in favor of the approval of a referendum by Congress to apply life imprisonment against child molesters began today in Colombia led by Senator Gilma Jiménez.
As a first step in the campaign, Johana Jiménez, a collaborator of the Green Party legislator, will officially submit a form to the committee promoting the consultation, in her fight to achieve maximum punishment against those who commit atrocious crimes against minors.
This act will be carried out at the headquarters of the National Registry of Civil Status, the local body trained to conduct all kinds of po[CENSORED]r consultations.

In this movement are involved several parents affected by painful acts committed against children and adolescents, who have become a symbol of this cause.

Among them are Ivonne Lozano, mother of the child Luis Santiago, murdered in the neighboring town of Chía by her own father in 2008, when she was only eight months old.

They also take part in the referendum campaign, Natividad and Gregorio Huertas, parents of Yenny Catherine, kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered in 2004 when she was nine years old in Bogotá.

Other personalities of the country, such as Carlos Andrés Amaya, Governor of Boyacá department and Luis Eduardo Garzón, exalcalde of Bogotá and former Minister of Labor, along with renowned intellectuals, are also participating in the sponsoring committee on behalf of life imprisonment before infanticides.

Nelly and Juvencio, parents of little Yuliana Samboní, allegedly raped and murdered recently by the architect Rafael Uribe Noguera, a member of a wealthy family linked to a prestigious law firm, were also invited to join the committee.

This character, whom the family has wanted to present as a person with mental disorders, was arrested and is followed by a process for the crimes of kidnapping, abuse and homicide of the girl Yuliana.

This case shocked Colombian society weeks ago.
