Computer giant Apple has obtained a patent for a flexible iPhone that can be folded in half, according to a statement posted on the website of the US Patent and Trademark Office. (USPTO for its acronym in English). This technology could reduce the need to put the devices in the pockets, according to RT.

The patent for a flexible display device, registered in July 2014, features a foldable smartphone with touch screen. The patent specifies how a flexible OLED display (with organic light emitting diodes) can be folded in different ways.

Although Apple often applies for patents for technologies that never see light, these documents give an idea of what products the corporation plans to create in the future. We are unlikely to see a folding iPhone soon, but the flexible screens are already in the limits of reality.

It is not the first case where Apple shows its interest in flexible components. This same month Apple has received its first patent for a folding phone that can be opened and closed as a laptop thanks to some carbon nanotubes.
