Renault's blockbuster hatch finally gets a two-pedal option. Called the 'Easy-R,' the Kwid now comes equipped with an automated manual transmission. Notably, the AMT is available only in the top-spec RXT (O) variant priced at Rs 4.25 lakh ex-showroom Delhi* i.e. around Rs 30,000 more than its manual counterpart.

The Kwid AMT is identical to its manual counterpart inside out. You continue to get the SUV-inspired styling with a large grille, smoked headlamps and generous amounts of cladding enveloping the bottom half of the car. The only tell-tale sign on the outside of the Kwid featuring the automatic transmission is a tiny 'Easy-R' badge on the boot.

The interiors are identical, and gets the same set of features, that include a touchscreen audio system with navigation, a digital speedometer, air-conditioning and front two power windows. There's no difference in cabin space, and boot space continues to be a class-leading 300 litres. The difference on the inside is the absence of a gear lever altogether. A usable cubby hole makes an appearance in place of the stick shift. Gears can be changed using a rotary knob that sits next to the power window switches on the centre console.

The automatic transmission is paired with the bigger 1.0-litre motor, which whips up 68PS of power and 91Nm of torque. The two-pedal version is also more fuel-efficient compared to its manual counterpart, with an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 24.04kmpl (MT = 23.01kmpl). Notably, the Kwid AMT does not feature a manual mode for gear changes. We have driven the hatch already; head here for detailed first impressions.

The Kwid AMT will go up against the Alto K10 AGS that is priced competitively at Rs 4.05 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Going up against one of the best-selling cars in the country isn't an easy task, but the Renault does look well prepared!
