Cape Town - Besides building stonking Formula 1 cars, McLaren is famous for producing the F1, at one point the world's fastest production car with a top speed of 386.4km/h.

Only 106 were built between 1992 and 1999 and it remains one of the world's iconic supercars, arguably one of the greatest analog cars of all-time.

How do you make a P1 even more extreme?

Fast forward to October 2013, the month McLaren started production on possibly the most ambitious road-car in history bar the Bugatti Veyron.

This small British automaker was building a limited production plug-in hybrid hypercar called the P1. Powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine and an electric motor with a combined power output of 674kW and 980Nm!

An even more extreme version, the P1 GTR was shown in Geneva in 2015. Power increased to an eye-watering 735kW, it ran on slick tyres and McLaren said it has more grip and downforce.

Only P1 owners were offered to buy this track-version monster.

British publication Evo got their hands on one of only 35 cars in the world and took it out on track at Angelsey.

Could it be the fastest car to be tested on their famed leaderboard? Watch and find out.

Oh and that colourful livery is an ode to former McLaren F1 driver James Hunt.
