KEY EVENTS SO FAR

FULL-TIME: Valenica 2-3 Barcelona

Lionel Messi’s wins for Barcelona at the death. Valencia players are furious at the final whistle, but there’s no arguments - that was a penalty. Suarez was chopped down and the referee was right to point to the spot. Messi, who doesn’t have a great penalty record, stepped up and swept the ball past Diego Alves to claim all three points. It had been a thrilling game up until that point. Messi gave Barcelona a first half lead with a fine finish in a crowded penalty box. Valencia roared back in the second half and goals from Rodrigo and Munir edged them in front. Luis Suarez got Barcelona back on level terms and the game looked to be heading for a draw until Messi scored from the spot to win the game at the Mestalla.
